i poured 2 cups of coffee this morning
keeping it simple, like we do.
and I made two eggs but ate only one,
the other is in the fridge for you.
I showered quick so there would be hot water left,
and as i pulled out of the drive,
i swore we must have been victims of theft,
your car was not next to mine.
home from work and back in the kitchen, your egg, on it’s plate, in the fridge.
your coffee, still on the counter by the pot.
it hadn’t moved. not a smidge.
but to bed i went and without second thought I set my alarm for five.
its snowing and you have a meeting tomorrow.
its bound to be quite the drive.
—
I drank your cup of coffee this morning
it was cold, but i didn’t care.
& I ate the leftover egg in the fridge,
well, as much as i could bare.
in the shower, my head in my hands
begging you not to go.
you were never here in the first place.
but oh, how I wanted it so.
